Losing the weight you gained while you were pregnant isn’t always easy. It may not be coming off as quickly as you’d hoped. But don’t let that get you down. These are some important things to remember when you’re trying to lose the baby weight.
1. Breastfeeding Can Speed Weight Loss
If you made the choice to breastfeed, it can help to speed weight loss in addition to giving your baby wonderful nutrition. WebMD reports that breastfeeding burns calories and helps your uterus return to normal size. Breastfeeding is a personal decision with pros and cons on both sides. It’s good to know about that losing weight is an advantage of breastfeeding.
2. Be Patient with the Process
It’s important to be patient with yourself when you’re trying to lose the baby weight. You’ve got a lot going on. You have a new baby in your life. While babies are always a blessing, they can also change the family dynamic, especially if you have other children. It’s a lot to adjust to. Be patient with yourself and the weight loss process.
3. Some of It’s Water Weight
Remember how your wedding rings were tight and your feet swelled by the end of the day in the last part of your pregnancy? That’s because you were retaining some fluids. Be comforted by the fact that part of your weight is fluid retention. It’ll come off on its own in time. You can help that happen faster by cutting back on salty snacks and drinking more water.
4. Focus on Healthy Eating
Focus on healthy eating rather than counting calories. Healthy food will give you the energy you need to take care of your baby and recover from childbirth. It’s also best to eat healthy foods if you’re breastfeeding. Eating healthy will help you lose weight since healthy foods are naturally lower in calories and fat. Also, they’re higher in vitamins and minerals than less healthy choices.
5. Give Yourself Grace
Don’t be too hard on yourself when you’re trying to lose the baby weight. An important point to remember is that it took 9 months to put on the weight so it may take 9 months to take it off. Relax and let your body lose weight at its own pace. As long as you’re doing the right things such as making healthy food choices and returning to an exercise routine when your doctor gives their approval, you don’t need to worry. The baby weight won’t be with you forever.
6. You May Need Some New Clothes
This’s something that isn’t often mentioned. You may need to purchase some new clothes after your baby arrives. You probably won’t go right back into your regular clothes and you’re probably sick of maternity clothes. And no one wants to wear maternity clothes when they’re not pregnant, right? Treat yourself to a few outfits to wear while you’re working on losing the baby weight.
7. Your Body May Be Different
This one may be a bit of a surprise to you. Your body may be different, even after you lose all of your baby weight. Your clothes may fit differently than they did before. Having a baby changes your body in certain ways forever. These changes will probably only be noticeable by you but they can occur.
These are 7 important things to remember when you’re trying to lose the baby weight. Which of them is helpful to you? I’d love to hear from you.
