1. Benefits

What exactly can this pepper do for you? Turns out it can do a lot more than just burn your tongue! Cayenne pepper has been known to speed up your metabolism, decrease your appetite, promote healthy digestion, increase blood flow, increase your body’s ability to burn fat for energy, and even increase your sex drive. WebMD cites a study partially funded by National Institutes of Health and the McCormick Spice Company which found that people who consumed a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper burned 10 more calories over a 4-hour period than those who did not.

2. Eat Whole Peppers

Before you begin including cayenne pepper into your meals, be sure to check with your doctor to make sure it’s safe for you. Now if you’re accustomed to eating spicy, try eating a whole pepper or even two a day to get some of its amazing benefits. If you’re new to spicy peppers or rarely eat spicy, ease yourself into it. Everyone has different tolerance levels when it comes to spicy foods and there’s nothing wrong with taking it slow. Start with a small bite and slowly increase your intake if you can tolerate it.

Frequently asked questions

3. Add It to Your Eggs

No matter how you like your eggs, a sprinkle of cayenne pepper along with some salt makes your breakfast taste even better. I love eating scrambled eggs with hot sauce but I’ll often opt to add cayenne pepper flakes instead just to switch things up a bit. Eggs are another great weight loss food due to their high protein content and they help keep you feeling full.

4. Add It to Your Avocado Toast

Avocado toast has to be one of the best breakfast/snack foods ever! I honestly can’t get enough of it and it’s especially good when you sprinkle the top of the toast with a good, crunchy salt and red pepper flakes. It’s the perfect combination of salty and spicy with the creamy avocado. If you’re into sweet potato toast, red pepper would be a great addition to that as well!

5. Add It to Salad

Salads can be super healthy and delicious but even they can get boring after awhile. Believe me, I know what it’s like to feel like you’re eating the same thing every day. But, if you add in some new veggies or toppings and sprinkle on some cayenne pepper, it really changes things up. If you don’t feel like adding pepper directly on top of the salad, try adding to the salad dressing.

6. Add It to Your Protein

Whether you eat meat or plant-based protein, adding cayenne pepper to it is a great way to get the health benefits. Sprinkle some pepper on chicken, beef, fish, beans, tofu, or whatever you like to have as your protein. It’s an easy way to make your meal a little more exciting for your taste buds while you get some incredible health benefits.

7. Add It to Your Green Juice

I know, you probably think I’m crazy. But, I encourage you to try it, it actually tastes really good! I find that adding red pepper to those juices that are really green, like the type that doesn’t have much flavor, makes it much more palatable and easier to drink. If you have trouble drinking your green juice, try adding some hot pepper. Pretty soon you won’t want to drink it without some pepper on top!

8. Add It to Your Beverages

Another way to add cayenne pepper to your diet is to add it to hot or cold water or tea. Infuse it in your water or tea just like you would with lemon or any other things you like to add in. You can always add some honey to your hot water or tea if you don’t like the taste on its own. Add about a half to a full teaspoon depending on your tolerance and enjoy!

9. Take Some Capsules

If none of the tips above sound appetizing to you, you can always try taking cayenne pepper capsules instead. It’s best to take them after you’ve eaten something as some people report stomach pain if you take them on an empty stomach. Make sure your doctor is okay with you taking cayenne pepper capsules and then check your local health food store for some capsules.

Have you ever consumed cayenne pepper to lose weight before? If you have, please share your experience with us, we’d love to hear about it. For those who haven’t tried it before, do you think you’d try it?
