I love water, but I know some people have a very difficult time drinking even a single glass of water during the day. My husband is one of these people. He would much rather see water confined to the shower than in a glass sitting next to him. A few of the 7 ways to make drinking water easy are ones I’ve gotten my husband to use. Water is necessary for keeping your body functioning properly, so do what you can to get the minimal amount of 64 ounces each day!

- make it taste good
7 Get a ‘drinking’ Buddy
Do you have a friend who is a big health nut and will help you to consume your daily dose of water? When I was a kayaking instructor, I had a few trips which consisted of groups of kids. We would take a break each hour, raise our water bottles and say ‘Cheers!’ to each other before taking a sip. This little method kept the kids excited about taking a drink of water, since they thought it was funny to toast one another before taking a sip.
6 Set a Timer
I think this is a bit extreme, but it might actually work for some people. If you can’t remember to stop and take a drink from time to time, then set your watch or the kitchen timer to go of every hour. When the timer dings, take a drink.
5 Take It like Medicine
This is the method that I have to use on my husband when he isn’t feeling well. I actually have to measure out a half cup of water and offer it to him every 30 - 45 minutes. These regular doses of water kept him hydrated while his body fought whatever was ailing him.
4 Drink out of a Crazy Straw
If you can make drinking water a fun thing, then maybe you’ll be able to consume the right amount during the daytime. Try a crazy straw or a silly cup to drink out of. I’ve seen some entertaining cups out there, especially the ones for little kids that are filled with glitter and floating objects. What fun!
3 Carry a Water Bottle with You
Sometimes having a constant supply of water will make it much easier to drink. All you have to do is take a sip from time to time and you’ll be sure to take in all you need during the day. Remember: the minimum amount of water needed daily is only 64 ounces. That’s 8 servings of 8 ounces of water, which is only two quarts.
2 Keep It Cool
Cool water is easier to tolerate than warm water. I actually have a hard time swallowing warm water, unless it has tea leaves added to it. Your body actually absorbs cold water better than warm water. When cool water enters your body, it has to be warmed up before it can exit, so a lot of it is slowly absorbed during the ‘warming up’ period.
1 Make It Taste Good
Add a scoop of Gatorade mix, lemonade flavoring, or some type of flavorful powder if you truly cannot tolerate plain water. It’s best if you can stay away from powders that include lots of sugar. This will help your body get the water it needs without trying to convert the table sugar in the flavored powder to a type of sugar the body can use.
Out of these 7 ways to make drinking water easy, I hope you can find something that works well for you and your water consumption needs. How do you keep track of the amount of water you drink each day?
