You just want to curl up inside and stay warm. However, there are a number of excellent ways learn how to lose 10 pounds that will help keep winter woes about your weight safely at bay. That way, you won’t have to add weight loss to your list of New Year’s resolutions. I do that every year, so this time, I’m getting a head start. Want to join me? Then consider these great tips on how to lose 10 pounds this winter.
1. Get to the Gym
I’ll be honest, the first item on my list of how to lose 10 pounds won’t be practical for everyone. Gym memberships can be expensive, and this is the time of year when every penny counts. However, if you can find a really great, affordable gym or an awesome deal, think about joining. You can exercise without getting out in the weather, so you’ll be able to stay active. However…
2. Stay Active
Exercise isn’t relegated to the gym. If you do a lot of walking, outdoors, at an indoor track, or at the mall, you’re in good shape. Ditto if you’re into a lot of winter sports, like skiing, snow-shoeing, and things like that. Just make sure you move around. Work out at home if you want, with an exercise DVD or a fun video game.
3. Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is one of the best tips on how to lose weight – especially in winter. When you run the heat to stay warm, it makes you dry. The air is dry, your mouth is dry, your body is dry. Drink up! It’s easy, it doesn’t have to cost anything, and it will help you with weight loss.
4. Eat Right
Naturally, eating right is important too. Look for seasonal vegetables and fruits so you can get plenty of vitamins and nutrients. Don’t rely on fast food, TV dinners, or microwaveable snacks. It’s easy to do that – when it gets cold, it’s natural to feel sluggish. However, eating poorly can zap your energy even more.
5. Get a Hobby
Just by getting a new hobby, you can curb weight gain. This is one of my favorite pieces of advice on how to lose 10 pounds, because I’m always looking for ways to while away the winter hours. It can be an outdoor activity or even something you can do inside. Take up a dance class, try basketball or racquetball, even do yoga.
6. Be Accountable
In the winter, it’s easy to skip a day of exercise because it’s cold, snowing, maybe even there’s a blizzard. That’s totally fine – everyone needs a day off, and you shouldn’t risk your safety. However, during this season it’s also easy to keep putting things off, until suddenly it’s spring. So, if you have to skip a day, make sure that you make up for it later, in some way.
7. Get Your Rest
This is one of the most surprising tips on how to lose 10 pounds this winter. The truth is, sleep is important, especially right now. Your body needs the extra waist, partly because research suggests a correlation between a high BMI and those who don’t sleep more than 6 hours.
8. Soup It up
When it comes to eating right, you need some specific advice on how to lose 10 pounds. When it’s warmer, people usually eat salads when they’re trying to lose weight. This winter, however, go with vegetable soup. It will keep you warm and help you shed excess pounds.
9. Get Exercise Equipment
If this is feasible, it’s a good idea. You can get a decent exercise bike for not that much money. This way, even when you don’t feel like going for a walk or run, hitting the gym, or playing a game, you can still remain active. Plus, it’s convenient to exercise at home, and you save a lot of money after the initial investment.
