As every new mom knows, the tips for getting your pre-baby body back are priceless. Yes, it took you nine months to put on the weight, but now that the baby’s gone, shouldn’t the weight be too?! Unfortunately, it’s not that simple, so the more tips for getting your pre-baby body back, the better! Here’s a list of 7 of my favorites.

1

Breastfeed

The importance of breastfeeding cannot be overstated. From fulfilling your baby’s optimal nutrition needs, to the convenience of always having food "ready," to the money you save by not purchasing formula, the list goes on and on. Breastfeeding even benefits you! Not only will it help your cervix shrink down to its pre-baby size sooner, it also helps you to lose weight. In fact, you can burn an extra 500 calories a day just by foregoing the bottle and giving your baby the boob. This is all-around the best of my tips to getting your pre-baby body back.

2

Get Plenty of Rest

As a new mom, sleep is something you just can’t get enough of. And hearing people say "sleep when the baby sleeps" is great in theory, but really, who has time for that?! Instead of stressing out about not sleeping enough, just try to sneak it in when you can. Even closing your eyes while your baby is breastfeeding will help you to feel a little more rested, and every bit helps. Plus, the more rest you get the more energy you’ll have throughout your day and the more likely you will be to want to do other things besides sitting on the couch and snacking.

3

Eat Regularly

When you have a baby, your first priority is no longer yourself but the darling little angel you just gave birth to. Their needs come first and thinking about feeding yourself is usually the last thing on your mind. But it shouldn’t be. Not only do you need good nutrition in order to breast feed your baby, you also need it to keep fueled throughout your day. Plus, eating small, nutritious meals at 2-3 hour intervals keeps your metabolism at its ideal burning rate and will actually help you get your pre-baby body back all the sooner.

4

Sneak in a Workout

Scheduling anything is pretty much impossible when you have a newborn, especially when it comes to something for yourself. But you don’t have to go to an hour workout class to see results. Just doing 10 minutes here, or 15 minutes there, a number of times throughout the day will give you the same benefit. Try doing squats while you brush your teeth, or doing a couple of pushups against the counter while you are waiting for the water to boil. Trust me, it all adds up.

5

Cook Meals at Home

Yes, eating out is fun and it’s definitely nice to not have to worry about cleaning up the kitchen after a long day of watching baby. However, you would be amazed to find out how many additional calories you could save just by preparing the same meal at home. Not only are you better able to control the ingredients you put into your dishes, but you can monitor your portion sizes as well. And avoiding those extra calories will definitely help you get your pre-baby body back before you know it.

Plan a Play Date

As a new mom, it’s so important to get out of the house and try to live a life that resembles one that is at least somewhat normal. Doing stuff for yourself is not only a necessity for your own sanity, but for those who have to deal with you on a regular basis as well. Going on a walk with another mom and her baby is the ideal way to do this. Not only are you getting in exercise without having to find a babysitter, you get to catch up with one of your own friends as well.

7

Use Baby as a "Prop"

It’s amazing how quickly babies grow. And it is amazing how quickly they become really heavy! Use this to your advantage and use your child as a weight. Bounce your baby in your arms or do squats while holding him/her. Trust me, you will feel the burn and you will start getting back your pre-baby body before you know what happened.

So as you can see, getting your pre-baby body back is simpler than one might expect. You just have to be creative. Are there any other tips that you’ve used to help get back your own pre-baby body?

I love the breast feeding part, but I'm so afraid of saggy boobs...so I'll jst stick to milk bottles.

This is great! Thanks :D

I'm in my third trimester and getting back in shape is one of my major concerns. I use to model so I'm very body cautious. Thnkx
