Losing weight often feels like an uphill battle. If you’re at the beginning of your weight loss journey and don’t know where to start, you’d be surprised by the amount of small changes to shed pounds you can make to your everyday life. Some of these tips are pretty simple, some are more difficult, but when you do all (or at least most) of them, you’ll start to notice a huge difference in both your overall health and your weight loss!
1. Stick to Water
It can be so easy to tell yourself that you’re “only having the one Coke” but if you really want to lose weight, cut yourself off from any other drink but water. It can be a tough trade at times, but you’ll see such a big difference in both your weight and your health when you make the switch!
2. Eat a Fruit or Vegetable with Every Meal
Fruits and vegetables are one of the most important facets of weight loss. If you’re not pumping your body full of healthy vitamins and nutrients, you’re not going to lose weight. If you don’t think you’re getting enough fruits and vegetables, make a conscious effort to add at least one fruit or vegetable to all of your meals.
3. Swap out Your Coffee for Water with Lemon
Coffee is one drink that most people exempt themselves from when they’re trying to stick to just drinking water. This is definitely a tough switch if you’re a coffee addict, but try switching from coffee every morning to hot water with lemon. Sure, it doesn’t have the caffeine that coffee does, but you’ll notice a difference in your overall demeanor (and your waistband!). Hot water with lemon will mellow you out and make you feel calmer every morning, even if you’re running late!
4. Stick to Salads at Restaurants
One of my biggest tips for people trying to lose weight is to order salads at restaurants. It can be such a big sacrifice when you’re used to ordering big pasta dishes or other foods filled with carbs, but it will make all of the difference. Plus, they’re probably a lot tastier than salads you’d make yourself at home!
5. Get Dressing on the Side
As someone who hates dressing, I never worry about whether or not my salads are just as bad for me as a carb-filled dish. However, if you love dressing on salad, make a conscious decision to get it on the side, otherwise your salad could be just as unhealthy as that burger you really wanted to order!
6. Avoid the Snack Aisles
When you’re grocery shopping, avoid the snack aisles altogether. Avoiding foods like chips and cookies at the grocery store makes it a lot easier to skip buying them and instead buy fresh foods like fruits and vegetables. You’d be surprised just how easy it is to avoid those aisles!
7. Try a Class That You’ve Always Been Too Scared to Try
If you’ve always wanted to try a fitness class but have been too scared or nervous, fight your fear and just go do it. You’ll probably love it, and then you’ll have a new way of getting healthy that won’t feel like fitness!
