1. Have a Banana and Peanut Butter Post Workout
I usually have a banana and a tablespoon of organic peanut butter after a really hard work out, since it is one of the best refueling foods from the high potassium level of bananas and the protein in peanut butter. Potassium helps to flush the body of excess salt and water weight. This will help you to eliminate bloating as well. And protein helps muscle fiber to heal.
2. Love My Green Hulk Drink
I have a green smoothie that I call the "green hulk" because it gives me energy and refuels my body. This smoothie contains a half a cup of Greek yogurt, 6 strawberries, a half a cup of spinach, and a teaspoon of flax oil. This smoothie is loaded with calcium, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that will refuel your body. And I love my green hulk drink because it tastes great!
3. Protein Popcorn Rocks
I love having a small bowl of air popped popcorn with one small scoop of chocolate or vanilla whey protein powder. I call this my power snack because popcorn is one of the best whole grains that will replenish your glycogen storage. And by adding a scoop of whey protein you will aid in muscle recovery. And popcorn is so satisfying!
4. Cold Glass of Milk
Sometimes my body craves the carbohydrates and protein in a nice cold glass of milk. There is nothing more refreshing post workout than a tall glass of cold organic milk. I drink skim milk so I do not have the added calories and fat grams of the regular version. Didn’t you hear the saying, "Milk does a body good"? It totally does, so drink up!
5. Organic Apples and Peanut Butter
Organic apples and peanut butter is a great post workout snack because of the natural sugars and protein it provides to give you a great refueling boost (without the nasty pesticides). The pectin in apples are also natural fat burners to aid you to reach your fitness goal. And the protein in the peanut butter will help your muscles to heal and prepare for your next workout!
6. Eat Some Nuts
I enjoy almonds as a refueling snack post workout. Almonds are low in calories and high in protein. One serving is only 150 calories and has 6 grams of protein to help your body to recover and refuel! And almonds are great because they are easy to carry - just put a handful in a baggy and take it along with you for noshing time!
7. Greek Yogurt Tastes Great
Greek yogurt packs double the protein and half the sugar of regular yogurt. The nutritional content and high protein make Greek yogurt a great refueling snack post workout. And its thick, creamy texture is delicious! Gotta love Greek yogurt!
I hope you enjoy all the refueling foods post workout, and that these foods rejuvenate you to prepare for your next workout. What foods do you eat to refuel after your workouts? Do these foods satisfy your body?
