9 Practical and Valid Reasons Why Your Weight Loss Resolution Will Fail ...

One of the most common new year’s resolutions at the start of every new year is to lose that extra weight you gained over the holiday period! This kind of goal is definitely a positive and sensible one, but the thing is, the majority of us throw ourselves in to it with little to no preparation, and as a result of this, we tend to fall at the first or second hurdle! I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer on this, but I think it’s realistic to have some of these points in mind. Here are nine reasons your weight loss resolution will fail.

1

Results Based Resolution

You are setting yourself up for failure if you decide on a wild final number target at the start of the year. Twelve months is never as long as you think, so you need to be realistic with your goals and not suggest a number that is always going to set you up to fall short.

2

Not Writing Them down

There is a lot of power in physically writing something down. Rather than just deciding in your head that you are going to lose weight, you should write it down in a personal contract form and stick it somewhere visible like the fridge. The more you see it, and the more other people see it, the more motivated you will be.

3

Giving up Too Soon

You’ve got a whole year to get this done, so don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t meet a target in January or February! Don’t give up at the first hurdle. Just see it as a stumbling block and then work even harder the next month.

4

Lack of Confidence

Weight loss isn’t something you can throw yourself into with half a heart. It is a hard process, and you need to make sure that you are 100% confident in yourself if you want to achieve any kind of positive results.

5

Not Tracking Progress

You need to make sure that you track your progress at regular weekly intervals, because sometimes you can drop pounds and lose inches without even noticing it in the mirror. It’s easy to get disheartened when you don’t think you are making a difference, so regular tracking is a positive thing.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

6

Getting Discouraged

Try not to get discouraged by images that you see online, perhaps of other people on fitness journeys that are experiencing quicker results. We are all different, and things happen at a different pace for everyone. Just be patient.

7

Trying Fad Diets

Any kind of extreme dieting is never going to be sustainable. You might get some initial good results, but over time your resolve will break and the strict rules you have been following won’t last.

8

Not Addressing Weight Gain

These resolutions often fail when people don’t address the weight gain that they experience in the year when they are supposed to be losing it! You end up in a cycle where you are trying to lose weight that you have only just recently put on, rather than the weight that you started with at the beginning of the year.

9

Unrealistic

If you set an unrealistic target at the start of the year, you are setting yourself up for failure. It is always better to have a lower target number in mind that you can meet, and then start all over again with a new, equally as realistic goal.
