You can lose weight by making small lifestyle changes. I am 35 and look better now than when I was 20. When I was 20 years old, I was 210 lbs and wore a size 16. Now I am 140 lbs and wear a size 8. But it didn’t take me 15 years to lose the weight. It only took me about a year. When I was 23 I decided I needed to lose the weight. Now you’re probably wondering which diet I went on to lose the weight. Which workout program I followed. Well, I didn’t do any of that.

So how did I do it? Small lifestyle changes. That's all it took. I don't work out ever. I don't only eat salads. I learned to do things in moderation. I walked a little more here, ate a little less there. You don’t have to work out for hours on end or never indulge in anything delicious. We are too busy with life, work, and family to spend our free time in a gym. I'm proof positive that you can lose weight by making small lifestyle changes.

It’s the small everyday decisions we make that make the difference. When you’re deciding whether or not to buy that delicious looking cheesecake at the store, keep going. Take a break from the decision. Do your other shopping first. If by the end of the shopping trip you are still seriously craving that cheesecake, then go for it! But if you’re lukewarm about it, then don’t go back.

Go explore the parks in your area instead of watching TV. You don’t have to run 5 miles to lose weight. A little more walking each week can reduce your weight drastically. Or find a local animal shelter and see if they have a volunteer program for walking dogs. You’ll lose weight and do good while you’re doing it. Nasty weather? Go to a museum and walk around there. When you have the choice between an escalator or elevator and stairs, take the stairs.

Losing weight doesn’t have to mean losing all your time and, in the end, yourself. It doesn’t have to be something you dread and something you have to force yourself to do. It doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself of any type of food. Just take a moment each time you are making a decision to evaluate what you really want. Do you really really really want that cheesecake or can you skip it today? Whatever the answer is, it is ok. As long as it isn’t yes to the cheesecake every single time.
