If you have clicked on this article, then I am sure that you are the kind of person who has read about every kind of fad and trendy diet under the sun. From Keto to Atkins and everything in between, it can be very easy to feel overwhelmed by the choice of diet programmes out there, and as a result, you end up never actually picking one to get going with. I’m here to tell you, however, that I think intermittent fasting is the way to go! Here is how intermittent fasting can shift those stubborn pounds and make you healthier overall!
When you go through an extended period, say 12 hours or so, of not eating, your body switches from using the energy gained from your last meal to using the energy that can be found already inside you, and this is found in the fat that is stored. So basically, when you go through little mini-fasting periods, your body goes straight to the fat already in your body and burns that to provide energy instead.
You might feel insatiable hunger in the first few hours of this new eating regime, but once your bloodstream starts to grow rich with fatty acids from the body fat that is being broken down, your hunger will start to fade away because there is a supplemental energy source called ketones that is running through your body thanks to your jacked up metabolism.
The power of this diet plan is in the metabolism and fat-burning properties of the fasting periods, so in effect, you don’t have to cut out any specific food groups from your daily eating. Of course, you shouldn’t be feasting on junk food and takeaways, but you should be able to eat a healthy and well-balanced diet with everything in moderation and still feel positive effects.
Your fasting periods won’t have you laying around lethargically all day. In fact, because you won’t be experiencing fluctuation levels of carbohydrates or a constant food intake, you will find that your energy is actually much more consistent. You will feel sufficiently fuelled rather than intermittently drained.
If you stick to this for a long time, you will find that your willpower and willingness to make healthier choices in all areas of your life really goes up. Anything that a person can do for at least 30 days becomes a habit, so use that as your goal period to see if you can stick to it.
