1. Realize It’s Counterproductive
Body shaming isn’t productive; in fact it’s counterproductive. You put yourself down then you feel depressed. You may feel like giving up on your weight loss efforts or even turn to food for comfort. Body shaming starts a negative cycle inside you and you deserve better than that! Resolve to stop body shaming yourself once and for all.
2. Choose Foods You Feel Good about Eating
When you’re making healthy choices in what you eat then you’re less likely to fall into body shaming. Even if you don’t see instant results, you can feel good about your food choices. You won’t feel guilt over eating apples or trail mix like you do when you stuff yourself with Oreos or potato chips. It’s important to note that an occasional treat is okay and even helpful in preventing a binge on junk food. Knowing you’re taking good care of your body will make you happy within yourself and when you’re happy, you don’t want to body shame.

3. Appreciate What Your Body Does for You
Sometimes we forget to be grateful for all the things our body does for us. We forget to have gratitude for our health. If your legs allow you to walk, be grateful. If your arms allow you to carry groceries and feed yourself, that’s something to be thankful for. Focusing on the functions your body gives you instead of just how it looks can change your attitude.
4. Change Your Lifestyle
Do something about the temptation to body shame yourself. Make a decision to change your life once and for all. It isn’t about weight; it’s about health. The fringe benefit of a lifestyle of healthy living is that your weight will become healthy, too. Keep your focus on health and the weight loss will happen.
5. Don’t Neglect Your Appearance
You’re going to feel worse about yourself when you neglect your appearance. This doesn’t mean you have to spend hours on your hair and makeup each day. But toss the ratty pj pants out and get dressed, at least for most days. Style your hair and put on a little makeup if you normally wear it. Just do whatever makes you feel pretty!

7. Remember Inner Beauty Never Fades
Outer beauty can change. It’s important to remember that inner beauty never fades. In fact, it’s who you are as a person that makes you beautiful. We’ve all known people that were very attractive outwardly but not at all pretty on the inside and that ruins the whole effect, doesn’t it? If you aren’t pretty on the inside then nothing outside will ever matter. Therefore, remember that inner beauty matters most.
